At hodgdonreloadingsupplies, all smokeless powders and primers are classified as Class 1 Explosives / Dangerous Goods under Transport Canada’s Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Regulations and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) Explosives Regulations. We adhere to strict legal packaging, labeling, and transit standards to ensure safe, fully compliant delivery directly to your door.
1. Flat-Rate Dangerous Goods Shipping Fee
Because smokeless powders and primers require specialized UN-certified packaging, hazard declarations, and certified courier handling, all orders containing these items incur a Dangerous Goods (DG) shipping charge.
Flat-Rate Combined Limit: You can combine up to 20 kg (44 lbs) of powder canisters, 8 lb kegs, and primer sleeves into a single certified shipping container for one flat shipping rate.
Automatic Checkout Calculation: Our checkout system automatically monitors the total weight and quantity of your cart. If your order exceeds 20 kg, a second certified package tier will be added automatically ensuring you never pay unexpected fees after checkout.
2. Certified Transport Networks & Delivery Requirements
Dangerous Goods cannot be shipped via standard postal services (such as Canada Post). All orders are dispatched through specialized, TDG-certified ground courier networks (e.g., Canpar Dangerous Goods or certified regional freight partners).
Mandatory Adult Signature: All shipments containing Class 1 Explosives require an Adult Signature (18+ or 19+, depending on your province or territory) with valid government-issued photo ID upon delivery.
No Unattended Deliveries: Couriers are strictly prohibited by federal law from leaving Dangerous Goods unattended on doorsteps, porches, or in common parcel lockers.
Missed Deliveries & Pickups: If an adult is unavailable to sign, the courier will leave a card with instructions for pickup at a local certified depot or to reschedule a delivery attempt.
3. Shipping Restrictions & Address Validation
Street Addresses Only: We cannot ship dangerous goods to P.O. Boxes, Rural Route boxes without street numbers, or General Delivery addresses. A physical street address is strictly required by TDG carriers.
Provincial & Remote Coverage: We deliver to all Canadian provinces and accessible mainland territories. Remote location surcharges or courier coverage limitations may apply to certain northern or island postal codes. Use our Postal Code Checker at checkout to confirm delivery availability.
No Air Transit: All smokeless propellants and ignition components must travel via certified Ground Transportation Only. Express or air freight shipping options are unavailable for these products.
